A History of Greenwood by Those Who Lived It

In the early 19th century while secret societies such as The Ribbon Society* and the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH)** brought from Ireland carried on in big cities in the United States, Irish Catholic families settled together in what was known as West Greenwood Hill. Drawn by farmland and opportunity, they built lives rooted in faith, labor, and a shared understanding: survival depended on one another. Most were farmers, or tradespeople who supported them—blacksmiths, sho
