Christmas Season 1953

Recognize this house?

Tis the season for parties...

Principal and Mrs Wesley Tenant hosted a Christmas party for the school faculty and their spouses. Gifts were exchanged and refreshments were served.

The Order of the Eastern Star held their party where Secret Pals were revealed. If you were a member, who was your Secret Pal?

The Rebekah Lodge held their Christmas party with an exchange of gifts. Refreshments included a birthday cake for the December birthdays. Mrs Helen Higgins, Mrs Winifred Kernan and Mrs Margaret Murray attended the Rebekah party in Addison.

It's not all about parties...

Some of the local ladies went to work in Hornell for the holiday season. Mrs James Smith worked at Woolworth's and Mrs JE Armstrong worked at the Newberry store.

Holiday dinners were hosted throughout town, on the hill and in West Union...

Christmas day, Mr and Mrs John (Pearl) Murray, Mr and Mrs Gordon (Pauline Murray) Pease and family, and Mr and Mrs Stanley (Margaret) Murray and family were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Hubert Foster in Whitesville.

Mr and Mrs Fred Updyke were hosts to the Wallace Family. And when I say family, I mean everyone one.

Mr and Mrs Arland Rollins and Mr and Mrs Clair (June) Rollins were guests of their parents, Mr and Mrs George Rollins.

Some comings and goings...

Jimmy, Joe and Bobbie McCaffrey returned home after spending two weeks with their grandparents, Mr and Mrs Thomas Murray of West Greenwood. For those that may have forgotten, their mother, Mary Catherine, was a Murray. We will find out more about all the branches of Murrays when we share about the McCaffreys.

Miss Jane Kellogg came to spend the holidays with her father WG Kellogg. They traveled to Utica to spend Christmas with Mr and Mrs William G Kellogg, Jr and family.

Mrs Hala Bess stayed with Mrs Mary Streeter while the Marion Streeter family was in Florida.

If your family hosted a party or were party guests, hosted or attended a holiday dinner, or maybe just came or went from Greenwood during this holiday season, share those memories.
